Route 2: Jesuit Route / Chiquitanía

4-6 days
Chiquitania

Explore the cultural heritage of the Chiquitanía mission region, home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites (including Concepción and San José de Chiquitos). **Classic Route (recommended):** Via San José de Chiquitos (paved road), from there to San Ignacio de Velasco → Concepción → San Julián. This variant is more relaxed, time-saving and suitable for all travelers. **Adventure Route:** San Juan de Lomerio → San Ignacio de Velasco → Concepción → San Julián (approx. 835 km, 16 hours pure driving time). This route partially follows **Route 39**, an unpaved jungle road – a real adventure with spectacular landscapes, but not for the faint of heart! Each mission has its own character: magnificent wood carvings, golden altars, historic courtyards. In some villages you can even hear baroque music concerts or watch artisans at work. What always impresses me: These churches are not just museums – they are the center of village life. Here history meets the present.

Day tour
Amboró National Park

Espejillos Park is the perfect place to cool off with the family in the warm temperatures in Santa Cruz - right in the middle of Amboró National Park. There are countless bathing spots and waterfalls in the park. The highlight is the large waterfall at the end of the path with a height of 80 meters. If you follow the "officially forbidden path" over the waterfall and follow the river, you will reach another small waterfall with a small stalactite cave. The park is only accessible with a four-wheel drive car, as you have to cross the Piraí River to reach it.
